Any suggestions?

May 14, 2019 10:31 PM by Discussion: WindowBlinds

I just downloaded the new 10.8 version of Windowblinds.  I tried installing it as an administrator and regularly.  I keep getting "A decompression error has occurred (#2026).  I didn't have Windowblinds installed for a long time.  So there was no need to uninstall.  It always gets this error as soon as I reach the Acrylic 7 folder.  I assume that is a sample skin.  I did a reboot between each attempt.

screenshot of error.

First, is anyone else running into this problem?  If so, has anyone found a way around it?  Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to do it?

Second, just a thought or maybe a request to Stardock.  I seem to be loading the software with no problem until I reach the Acrylic 7 skin.  Would it be possible to make available the install program without any skins?  There a loads to choose from, and it would differentiate whether the problem is the software or a skin.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Either a question on how or a suggestion.

I like the roll-up of the fences categorized, but I would love it if there was a setting to have the mouse over of the title display the icons in that fence on the top level.  This is a question about is there already a way to do it, that I have missed.  Or it is a request for some future version.  I usually work with several windows open.  I have my fences located on the top and bottom edges.  So when I need to open another program, I have to close every window I have open, so that the entire region of the fence is visible and clickable.  If the roll-up displayed on top of the open windows, that wouldn't be necessary.  Did a miss a setting for this?

Thanks,
NetBadger

Windows versions ready

Apr 17, 2016 12:58 AM by Discussion: Skinning

There aren't many new free WB skins these days.  I have around six old skins I made for XP.  Most were rated six stars, so I feel like I at least have a decent foundation to build on.  How do I go about updating them to get the Windows 7, 8, and 10 ready badge for my skins?

Please keep in mind, I am an old fart 10 years out of practice on making skins.

Thanks in advance for any help, you can offer.

I have no filters turned on, and there are no skins at all listed under explore windowblinds.  There are none on the sidebar for popular windowblinds for yesterday, last 30 days, or all time.  There is a full list under Top Windowblinds skinners.  But when you click on one of their names there still no skins.  It is like the entire database of skins is gone.

WHAT'S UP????

I am not complaining, I am asking a question.  I noticed that between version 8.12 and 8.13 there was six months. The biggest thing pointed out, that it was now Chrome compatible.  For those six months, Chrome held over 64% of market according to w3schools.com, over 60% for the past year, and over 50% since February of 2013. The official release of Windows 10, has been out for three months.  I have no idea of what the industry standard lag time would be, if there was even a way to measure such a thing.

Which brings us to the question:

Is Windowblinds becoming a legacy product?

FYI, The other browsers breakdown for 09/2015

Firefox 20.6%

I.E. 7.2%

Safari 3.6 %

Opera 1.4%

Mar 3, 2012 10:27 PM by Discussion: Stardock Support General

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit home premium (not that it affects this issue).  I just purchased a Solid State Drive (SSD), where storage space is very costly.  I can easily choose at installation time, where the program files of Windowblinds, Icon Packager, etc are located.  I cannot find any way to specify where the downloaded skins are to be stored.  Windowblinds defalt location is:

c: users/public/public documents/stardock/windowblinds

How do I change this?  All of me searching through the forums on the subject, refer to instructions for Impulse, which is no longer in use.  I am referring to all of the Object Desktop applications in my question, but I have only reloaded Windowblinds so far.  I am just assuming I'll have the same problem with the location of installed icons, deskscapes, etc.

do I have to download everything again?

After upgrading to Windows 7, 64bit on a formatted drive, I installed Windowblinds on my living room computer.  On a thumb drive, I copied all of my cursors, themes, icons and windowblinds from the office computer.  I copied them to the appropriate folder and the icons, themes and cursors got read into the new installation on the living room computer.  That was not the case with the Windowblinds.  For the life of me, I cannot get Windowblinds 7 to recognize the skins I brought up on the thumb drive.  I may be wrong, but I think the used to be a button or link that would get Windowblinds to build a new list.  It just got WB to make a new list by re-reading the directory where the skins were stored.  Any ideas?

NEVER MIND!  I FOUND WHERE THE REBUILD LIST LINK IS.

This is a really old post, and maybe I should have started a new one, but I wanted to refer to some of the post in this thread.  Let's start with the basics.  I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS, on an Asus M2NPV-VM motherboard with 4 Gb of DDR2-800 MHz RAM.  The CPU is an AMD Athalon 64 X2 dual core processor 3800+.  The motherbooard has a built-in nVidia GeForce 6 graphic port, but it is disabled in the BIOS.  Insead I am actually using an ATI Radeon X 1950 Pro, with 512 Mb of RAM, with the most current ATI legacy card driver.  The driver Microsoft tried to load at windows 7 installation, did not support Open GL 2.2, which I need for my 3D work. In replies 4, 5, 11, & 13 the problem was the NVIDIA Display Driver Service, which isn't running on my computer in disabled, manual or automatic mode.  In fact, there isn't a service running with nVidia in the file name or the description.  I tried disabling the service called ATI external event utility, but that did not fix the issue.  Here is the Windowblinds data:  BTW Windowblinds 7 worked perfectly on this exact hardware with XP Pro.

When Windows 7 boots up, no matter what skin was loaded when I shut down, it always boots up with the classic skin.  Although it says "WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC" above, when I go to load Windowblinds after boot up, it says "There is a problem with your Widowblinds installation. Would you like to fix it?"  I have tried everything in reply #2, with the exception of step 5.  In Windows 7, I cannot find a tick box that says, 'Hide all Microsoft services.'

I have reloaded Windowblinds at least 40+ times under almost every configuration you can imagine.  Here are just a few; firewall off/on, antivirus off/on; strip out all stardock apps including impulse, then reloaded Windowblinds 1st, 2nd, & 3rd; loaded it without impulse, used the reload within impulse, and many more.  I have trird using wbload.exe in the start-up group.  I have worked with the Windowblinds service. When I boot up in classic mode, the Stardock Windowblinds service is set to automatic, but the status column is blank.  If I click to start the service, it will load whatever skin was active at shutdown, just like I want it to do automatically.  The status then changes to running.  I tried changing it to the 'delayed start', but it wouldn't accept the setting. To further tweak the service, I went into properties > recover and worked with the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd failure to start settings.  I have changed 1st and 2nd failure settings from 'take no action' to 'restart the service' and the 3rd failure to 'run a program' with wbload.exe as the program.  I have tried the failure to start setting under many various combinations.

It is too late to save my hair (I pulled it all out), but I would really like to fix this issue!

Product Idea

Jun 10, 2007 11:40 AM by Discussion: Vista Customization
I don't know how to do a poll on this board, if it is even possible, but some feedback might do the trick.

We all love the Stardock products and how they allowed us to extend the graphic capabilities of Windows XP. Wouldn't it be a great product for Stardock to create a program that could read Dreamscene files and run them on versions of Vista other than Ultimate, or for that matter even have them run on Windows XP. Just a thought. What do you think?
